We moved the first class of the day forward by fifteen minutes last autumn and it turned out to be the single most useful thing we did all year. Quarter past six finishes at five past seven, which is showered and out of the door by twenty past — and that is the difference between making the school run and not.

Nobody asked us for it. We worked it out by looking at who stopped coming in September, ringing eleven of them and listening. Attendance at the early circuits class has not dropped below eighteen since, and four of those eleven are back on the register.
