Almost everybody who is still training after six weeks is still training after a year. Almost nobody who stops in the first six weeks comes back inside twelve months. We have watched that pattern hold for eleven years and it has never once broken.

So we spend our effort where it changes something. Every new member gets a call in week two and again in week five — not a sales call, a genuine how-is-it-going call — and if somebody has not been in for a fortnight we ask why while the answer is still fixable. It is unglamorous, it takes one member of staff most of a Tuesday, and it is worth more than any piece of equipment we have ever bought.
